The Flower Songs is a solo exhibition by Brenda Kearney, bringing together collections of ceramics, textiles, and drawings. The objects and their arrangements have emerged from intuitive engagement with intersecting worlds of nature and culture, inspired by visits to ethnographic collections, readings in contemporary anthropology, and seasonal walks in nature. They reflect a more sustainable approach to materials and environmental considerations, including woodfired pottery, undyed or naturally dyed silks and cottons, repurposed and reusable parts, and local materials.
Some pieces are complete, while others remain in flux or as yet unfinished, sharing a continuing evolving process. The Flower Songs embraces the idea of process, rather than resolution, and a deliberate aim to slow down and look around, rather than ahead. The collection encourages you to linger in the company of handmade objects, consider their stories, and reflect on how they might connect - to you, to one another and to wider environments. Moving through this space is an invitation to explore and make meaning, allowing curiosity to guide you.
